About me
I am a Senior Lecturer in Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Manchester and an honorary consultant physician and geriatrician at Manchester Royal Infirmary (Central Manchester Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust).
I qualified in medicine from the University of Manchester in 1997 and then completed training as a geriatrician in the Northwest and in Yorkshire.
I am particularly interested in the treatment of cardiovascular disorders in the elderly, and how we can improve these to prevent diseases such as strokes, heart attacks and dementia.
I also specialise in the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension) and work closely within the European Society for Hypertension and the British Hypertension Society.
In addition to my clinical work in the hospital, I also run a research laboratory at the university where I lead a team investigating the origins of high blood pressure.
Areas of interest
High blood pressure; Hypertension; Frailty; Falls; Dementia; Medication review; Cardiovascular disease (heart and blood vessels); General deterioration of function in the elderly; Dizziness
