I was appointed a Consultant in 1990. My subspecialty interest has been in strabismus both child and adult. I have a large NHS practice in this speciality along with general ophthalmology. I do not provide a vitreo retinal or a complex oculoplastic service. I have performed over 5000 squint operations since my appointment. I have also specialised in botulinum toxin injections both for squint and facial spasms. I have been undertaking this since 1997. I am happy taking on patients with previous multiple strabismus procedures.
Areas of interest
Cataract surgery; Eye - external disorders; Glaucoma; Corneal surgery / disease; Strabismus ('squint')
Current NHS consultant posts held
Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and Clinical Director in Ophthalmology at University Hospital Aintree, Liverpool
I have published 40 peer reviewed articles in academic journals, most being on strabismus including complex interventions. I have also published on so called cosmetic squint surgery. My belief is that this should be regarded as reconstructive. My recent publications tend to support this view. Cosmetic means to beautify whereas squint surgery restores normality.
I have published in Strabismus(European journal), JAAPOS(American journal), BJO and Eye
