Mr Robert Clarke works as a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at the Nuffield Health Shrewsbury Hospital and at the Royal Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust. He has a specialist interest in laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery.
Mr Clarke graduated from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School (Imperial College London) in 1998, and has trained in London, the South Coast of England and Perth, Australia. His higher surgical training and colorectal subspecialisation was in the Wessex region after which he then went on to complete a specialist fellowship in advanced laparoscopic colorectal surgery at the National Training Unit based at Bradford Royal Infirmary Teaching Hospital. He has published and delivered presentations nationally and has been an instructor on national courses teaching other consultants advanced techniques in laparoscopic bowel cancer surgery. Mr Clarke is an accredited Trainer for the National Training Programme in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery.
Mr Clarke specialises in general and colorectal surgery and has a specific interest in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgical techniques as well as enhanced recovery after surgery. He offers specialist care in all aspects of colon and rectal cancer surgery and is an expert in management of Early Rectal Cancer having extensive experience in performing Trans Anal Endoscopic microsurgery. Mr Clarke also provides surgical expertise in the management inflammatory bowel disease and performs ileo-anal pouch reconstructive surgery at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. Other conditions he specialises in include management of diverticular disease, all minor proctology including pilonidal sinus with limberg flap reconstruction, haemorrhoids (banding, HALO, Haemorrhoidectomy) and anal fissure and fistula disease.
As well as his colorectal practice, Mr Clarke also provides a comprehensive general surgical service including laparoscopic incisional and groin hernia surgery (performing both laparoscopic TEP and TAP operations) He has instructed and taught these techniques on national hernia masterclass courses.
Mr Clarke is a keen cyclist, enjoys skiing and spending quality time with his family.
