About me

Mr Alex George FRCOphth FRCS(Edin), MS, DOMS, DNB
Ophthalmic Surgeon

I am an experienced ophthalmic surgeon who specialises in refractive eye surgery and performed more than 40,000 laser vision correction procedures. I have also performed more than 11,000 intraocular surgeries - including 3,500 refractive lens exchanges using state-of-the-art equipment.

I am registered with both the General Medical Council and the Irish Medical Council and on the Ophthalmic Specialist Register in both countries. I have undergone additional specialist training in refractive surgery in the US and has the Certificate of Refractive Surgery awarded by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

I have gained vast experience in a wide range of specialities and an active member of various affiliated bodies and societies such as the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the British Society of Refractive Surgeons. Twice every year I attend the International Medical Advisory Board (IMAB) conference and I am annually appraised by this board - the panel of which consists of several of the world’s most eminent Refractive Surgeons including Mr. Steve Schallhorn, former Head of Ophthalmology for the US Navy.

I began my distinguished career when I obtained my medical degree in 1975 from Aligarh University in India and was certified in Ophthalmology in 1984 from Bombay University in India after obtaining my Masters and Diploma qualifications. In 1985, I obtained further qualifications from the National Board of Examinations in Ophthalmology from New Delhi, India and went on to acquire the FRCS(Ed) and the FRCOphth qualifications in 1989 and 1990 respectively. I completed my refractive surgery training in1994/1995 as a Fellow at the Centre for Sight at Georgetown University in Washington DC, USA and was also involved in the investigational, Phase 3 FDA trials of PTK and PRK.

In addition to my vast experience carrying out refractive surgery and laser vision correction procedures, I am also highly experienced in intraocular surgery and corneal procedures to treat refractive errors such as limbal relaxing incisions, compression suturing, arcuate keratotomy, clear lens and cataract extraction surgery and Phakic IOL surgery.
