Mr Somani is an Associate Professor and a high volume surgeon and performs more than 200 ureteric or renal endoscopic procedures per year. He has performed more than 1000 ureteroscopy procedures and started the ‘Ultra-mini PCNL’ in the South Coast with results presented Internationally.
Mr Somani performs elective and emergency stone surgery, including complex stones, bilateral stones, paediatric stones and regional referrals. Mr Somani keeps a comprehensive database of his patients, contributing to National audits and publishing outcomes in peer-reviewed journals. He has published more than 200 papers and 300 International presentations/abstracts.
His main interests are in stone disease, benign prostate disorders, urinary tract infections, haematuria and general urology.
Mr Somani has developed a portfolio of activities to raise public awareness of the symptoms, prevention and treatment of kidney stones, including BBC Radio 4's Inside Health programme, BBC South television and ITV Meridian news.

Bhaskar Somani is a Consultant Urological Surgeon and Associate Professor in Urology at University Hospital Southampton. He is the clinical lead for the Endourology Unit.
He is the Wessex Clinical Research Network (CRN) and Simulation Lead for Urology, and has published more than 200 peer review papers and 300 published abstracts in National and International meetings.
He has published one of the first papers in the world on upper tract PDD using oral 5-ALA for upper urinary tract tumour diagnosis, and his papers on testicular torsion, erectile dysfunction, urinary tract infection, haematuria, urine cytology and penile length measurement are amongst the largest series in the UK.
He spends his spare time with his family and enjoys music and cinema.
