I became a psychologist and counsellor over 20 years ago because I realised that life wasn't easy, and when the going gets particularly tough, we all need someone on our side who can help us to make sense of it all. My role is to work alongside you in those confusing or dark times, listening in a non-judgemental way so that you can resolve the challenges you are facing in your personal, family or working lives. My clients find that I am an open minded, friendly and down-to-earth counsellor and psychologist, and that my approach encourages individuals, couples and family clients to quickly build trusting and effective working relationships, which enables them to get to grips with working on the issues that are really bothering them.
Areas of interest
Integrative and Existential psychotherapy for individuals and couples.
Depression; stress; anxiety; relationship issues; trauma; eating disorders; bereavement; PTSD; family issues; existential issues.
- Video and telephone consultations
I work integratively (which means I can make use of a wide range of types of counselling, depending on your needs as a client). I am also influenced by the work of existential philosophers and counsellors. This means that I focus on helping people come to terms with some very straightforward human issues including anxiety and sadness, getting on with other people, death and loss, loneliness and isolation, freedom, choice and responsibility, trauma and limitations, and meanings and values.
I am the author of a number of books, magazine and journal articles on psychological topics. A book on relationship therapy (with co-editor Professor Emmy van Deurzen) will be published by Palgrave later this year. Existential Therapy: 100 key tools and techniques will be published by Routledge in 2013.
