About us

Dr John Tanner qualified in 1977 and trained first as a GP, then an osteopath before specialising in Orthopaedic and sports medicine. He ran a sports injury clinic and medical osteopathic clinic in Milton Keynes for 7 years, a medical osteopathic practice in Bermuda for 4 years and on return to the UK he took over from Dr Alan Stoddard and developed the Oving Clinic as a multidisciplinary practice in West Sussex. He has been working at Bupa Health centre Basinghall St London previously at the Barbican for 15 years, and the Oving clinic with a dedicated fluoroscopy suite. He also worked as an Associate Specialist at Odstock Rehabilitation in the Pain Management team for 10 years and for 2 years in orthopaedics at Worthing. He has authored three books ‘Better Back’, ‘Your Guide to Back pain’ commissioned by the RSM and ‘The BMA guide to Back Pain’ DK 2011. He pioneered the use of extracorporeal shockwave therapy in tendinopathy in the UK, and has a special interest in chronic musculoskeletal and spinal pain, interventional pain relief techniques and psychological management. He is an Instructor for the Spine Intervention Society and sits on the European Faculty for this. He has established a new course for Post Graduate training for doctors in Musculoskeletal Medicine under BIMM, teaching regularly throughout the UK and Europe on minimally invasive spinal pain treatments, diagnostic ultrasound and musculoskeletal assessment. He is past President of the British Institute of Musculoskeletal Medicine.
He has worked at Bupa Health Centre London for 15 years and now works solely from the Oving Clinic; he takes referrals from GPs and colleagues covering a wide range of problems.
