Peter Magnussen trained in London, qualifying at UCL in 1977. His first years were at his teaching hospital as a houseman and demonstrating anatomy before working as a surgeon in a missionary hospital in Zululand with his wife Mari. He then began his surgical training in the UK rotating through Norwich, Southampton and London before higher surgical training at the Bristol University Hospitals. During this time he undertook fellowships in Australia and Sweden before becoming Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Rowley Bristow Orthopaedic Hospital at St Peter's in 1990. In 1995 he moved to the Royal Surrey County Hospital to develop the hand and upper limb service. He has been in practice for twenty-nine years and has just retired from his NHS practice but continues to be fully available in private practice.
His major interests are hand, wrist and upper limb conditions both simple and complex. He works in partnership with senior specialised hand therapists and imaging colleagues to offer the very best standard of treatment.
He continues to lecture, train and also chairs the Regional Hand Surgery Group.
