About me

I am an experienced Upper GI surgeon with 22 years as an NHS consultant behind me. I trained in Edinburgh, Leeds and Hong Kong before moving to Surrey as a consultant.

I was an early exponent of laparoscopic surgery particularly for emergency surgery for perforated peptic ulcer, complicated gall bladder surgery and appendisectomy. It became clear in the early days of laparoscopic surgery that not enough surgeons had the requisite skills to perform these newer procedures. With some like-minded colleagues, I organised the first laparoscopic skills training courses for consultants and trainees in England. I subsequently produced the laparoscopic video module used on the mandatory training course for all surgical trainees.

I have devised my own operation for the uncommon condition of Gastric volvulus which entails stitching the stomach and colon to prevent further twisting of the stomach.
