About me
Dean Harris is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at Vale Healthcare. His NHS work is based at Singleton Hospital in Swansea. He is an honorary clinical professor at Swansea University.
Dean offers a full range of colorectal and general surgery procedures including laparoscopic (keyhole) colorectal surgery and colonoscopy. His interests are in proctology (fistulae, haemorrhoids), pelvic floor disorders (including internal and external rectal prolapse) and management of incontinence.
Dean qualified from UWCM (Cardiff) in 1997 and has obtained a broad training in general surgery and coloproctology as a specialist registrar in Wales. Much of his colorectal training has been in Singleton Hospital, both as a registrar in 2007 and as an Ethicon Endosurgery Laparoscopic Colorectal Fellow in 2010.
Dean was a colorectal fellow at St Mark’s Hospital in London and at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Canada where he received advanced colorectal training. He has developed special interests in pelvic exenteration for advanced pelvic malignancy, ileoanal pouch formation for ulcerative colitis and familial adenomatous polyposis, and laparoscopic colorectal surgery.
Dean is the prestigious ACPGB&I/ RSM British Travelling Fellow for 2013 and has visited the Mayo Clinic and Washington Medical Center to develop his practice.
Dean undertook a full time MD in Cardiff studying the biology of peritoneal inflammation and adhesions. He has active research interests in the management of locally advanced rectal cancer through Swansea University.
