About me

I am a highly qualified and very experienced therapist. I can therefore help people with most difficulties. The combination of personalised counselling and Cognitive Behaviour Techniques is often the most effective approach. However, therapy is an individual experience, and I adapt always to the person in front of me.

My professional practice grew out of 20 successful years in business. I trained initially as an occupational psychologist, and helped many clients overcome work-based issues. As I watched my clients surmount the difficulties that were holding them back at work, I observed something that I could not ignore. In almost every case, the problems at work stemmed from deeper personal struggles, which appeared in all areas of life.

Therefore, I left business and became a full-time therapist. This move occurred at a time in my life when I was struggling psychologically. Looking back, I am grateful for this, because when my clients describe their difficulties to me, I can relate to them personally, and not just interpret them professionally.

Now, I am trained, qualified, and experienced in helping people overcome the deeply personal problems that can interfere with life at work, at home, and beyond. I am pleased that my approach has helped many people deal with a range of issues that are often distressful. In particular, I can support and guide you through any challenging period of crisis or uncertainty. I find that these periods often lead to deeply positive personal growth and change, though at the time, we are usually too distressed to see that.

Though the breadth of my qualifications and experience provides a firm foundation for my work, the feedback I get from clients is what I use to measure my success. The words frequently used to describe their experience of working with me are warm, enthusiastic, encouraging, and professional. However, the most meaningful feedback I have is that clients sense that I ‘get it’, and know that my empathy is genuine. I do get it; and I am genuine. When that stops, so will I.

Some of the issues I have worked with a lot include helping people to:

Cope with and manage anxiety
Recover from depression
Process bereavement and loss
Understand and deal with relationship difficulties
Manage anger
Improve self esteem
Become more confident
Be more assertive
I also continue to help people with work-based issues such as:

Job change and loss/ redundancy
Achieving work/life balance
Avoiding/ managing stress
Dealing with workplace bullying
Working with difficult professional relationships
Concisely, I would say that my business background, psychological training, and therapeutic experience have taught me that every individual has a unique potential to overcome even the most harrowing difficulties and regain a sense of their own autonomy.
