I trained at undergraduate level in Edinburgh before moving to the Manchester Deanery in 1999. During higher specialist training in gastroenterology I completed a PhD in swallowing disorders at Manchester University and attained accreditation in general medicine and gastroenterology.
I try to adopt a relaxed style in clinic and the endoscopy unit and with this approach, I aim to ensure patients are comfortable discussing their care. This ensures patients are fully involved in their management.

Colonoscopy outcomes are monitored through my participation in the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program (at Royal Bolton Hospital). In this program I achieve a colonoscopy completion rate over 97%, polyp detection rate above 50% and patient comfort score of 1.7 (scale is 1-5 with 1 equating no discomfort).
