Dr Fairbairn graduated from the University Of Wales College Of Medicine in 1998 and completed general medical training within South Wales and at St Mary’s Hospital, London. Dr Fairbairn then continued her Respiratory & GIM training within Wales and was awarded an MRCP (London) Degree in 2002.
Dr Fairbairn was awarded the Scadding-Morriston Davies Fellowship in Respiratory Medicine in 2007. This funded a research and clinical placement at the Lane Fox Unit, St Thomas’ Hospital, London. The research primarily looked at muscle function in critical illness and the associated effects of hypoxia. Within a clinical setting Dr Fairbairn gained significant experience in Assisted Ventilation and the management of Respiratory Failure.
Respiratory Failure and Assisted Ventilation are Dr Fairbairn’s main areas of interest. She also has an interest in all aspects of Respiratory Medicine including Asthma, Cough, COPD and Lung Cancer.
Dr Fairbairn’s NHS base is Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport where she was appointed in 2007.
