About me

I am currently working as the only Upper GI consultant at Whipps Cross Hospital and as an in-reach resectional surgeon at University College London Hospital( UCLH). I have been an Upper GI consultant for 6 years following completion of my specialist registrar training and subsequent fellowship in the South East Thames Region.

I have been involved in Upper GI cancer at a consultant level for the last 6 years, being a core member of the MDT and then subsequently involved in the resections and follow–up.
As the only surgeon at Whipps with an Upper GI interest, I am referred all the benign upper gastrointestinal cases in our catchment area. The majority of my cases I operate laparoscopically.

My specialist training was at 2 major oesophagogastric cancer units in the South East of England; there I obtained a broad training in the diagnosis, management and postoperative care of both benign and malignant upper GI diseases. I was exposed to all types of resections for oesophagogastric cancer.
Furthermore I gained experience in complex benign and oesophageal reconstructive surgery. I also had the opportunity to manage and operate on acute gastro-oesophageal emergencies such as perforations and complex ulcerations.

Clinically, apart from my specialty interest I have had considerable experience in hepatobiliary oncological surgery at the Royal Marsden Hospital.
I have worked in the United States and in India and have gained considerable experience in the surgical set up and management methods in those countries; this enables me to view problems from a broader viewpoint.

I am a dedicated and confident worker and am well organized with good time management skills. I strived to mentor my team members professionally, and in some instances, personally. I enjoy teaching both during ward rounds and in theatre.

I have a keen interest in audit and research. I have had numerous presentations internationally, nationally and regionally.
