About me

I graduated from the University of Cambridge Medical School in 1994. I obtained my PhD from the University of Birmingham in 2005 following work on growth factor receptors in oesophageal cancer.
I have been a consultant gastroenterologist at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust since 2006. Within that role, I served as clinical lead for the endoscopy unit at City hospital until 2011, and as lead for the upper GI cancer service at the Trust. I perform a wide range of endoscopic procedures but in addition I have dedicated lists for endoscopic ultrasound and for trimodal imaging of Barrett’s oesophagus.
I am active in research and clinical trials and have supervised a research fellow studying the molecular effects of bleeding.
Since 2011 I have been Clinical Director for Gastroenterology at SWBH NHS Trust, leading a team that provides comprehensive clinical gastroenterology including hepatology, advanced endoscopy and bowel cancer screening.
