About me

I graduated from the University of Cambridge Medical School in 1994. I obtained my PhD from the University of Birmingham in 2005 following work on growth factor receptors in oesophageal cancer.
I have been a consultant gastroenterologist at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust since 2006. Within that role, I served as clinical director of several medical specialities and as lead for the endoscopy unit at City hospital and Sandwell hospital until 2019, and I am lead for the upper GI cancer service at the Trust. Our team provides comprehensive clinical gastroenterology including hepatology, advanced endoscopy and bowel cancer screening. I perform a wide range of endoscopic procedures but in addition I have dedicated lists for endoscopic ultrasound and for trimodal imaging of Barrett’s oesophagus.
Since 2019 I have been Deputy Medical Director for SWBH NHS Trust, and serve as Responsible Officer for medical professional standards.
