About me

Dr Brian Murphy MBChB BSc(Hons) FRCP graduated in Medicine with Commendation from the University of Glasgow in 1997. He trained in Cardiology and General (Internal) Medicine throughout the West of Scotland. He was appointed as Consultant Cardiologist to Inverclyde Royal Hospital in 2009, and then to the Victoria Infirmary in 2014. He is now based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow with out-patient clinics at Victoria Infirmary ACH and complex device implantation and follow up at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital.

He has wide experience in all areas of general Cardiology with subspecialty interest in the areas of pacing and complex devices and heart failure.

Dr Murphy's main focus is to provide the highest quality individualised patient care. This is achieved through careful attention to detail, time spent listening to patients, and up to date knowledge, diagnostic and procedural skills. He prides himself on communicating openly and honestly with patients and providing them with detailed information on their diagnosis and choice of treatments in language they understand.

Dr Murphy has published in the fields of Complex device therapy, Coronary artery disease, Hypertension and Cardiac pharmacology. His main ongoing research interests are in clinical governance and optimising patient outcomes, as well as contributing to multicentre clinical trials

Other interests include teaching and education. He is actively involved in Medical sudent teaching including lecturing on BSc(MedSci) course, and was previously Hospital Sub-dean at Inverclyde Royal Hospital.

He currently holds a number of responsible positions including Chairman, Glasgow Heart Disease Managed Clinical Network Pacing and Devices Group, Associate Director of Medical Education, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and External Adviser, Academy of Medical Royal Colleges. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the GGC Therapeutics Handbook and has written the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Heart Failure Guidelines.
