Complete decongestive treatment including manual lymphatic drainage and compression therapy encourages the lymph transport and the outcome is reduction of the volumetric circumference, softening of the tissue and reduction of infection risk.
Limb shape and functional ability are restored and maintained as much as possible. The patient is encouraged and supported in developing self management to maintain treatment given, as lymphoedema is a life-long condition.
