Alex Cowey was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic and Hand Surgeon at the Royal United Hospital, Bath and Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases in March 2009.
He completed his University degree at Manchester as well as his basic surgical training, before undertaking Higher Surgical training in Orthopaedics and Trauma in Oswestry, a national and international centre for Orthopaedic training.
He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Trauma & Orthopaedic in 2007 and subsequently undertook a highly specialised training fellowship in Hand Surgery in Manchester and Wrightington working and learning from some of the best hand surgeons in the UK. In 2009 he was awarded a Diploma in Hand Surgery by the British Society for Surgery of the Hand, a society he is a member of along with the British Orthopaedic Association.
Alex has lectured both nationally and internationally in hand and trauma surgery. He has a keen interest in education od both medical students and junior doctors and sits on the Hand society education and training committee.
