About me

Dr Sarah Rae is a Consultant Rhuematologist specialising in all forms of arthritis, back pain and osteoporosis and guiding patients on managing their conditions through conventional but also self help strategies.

Dr Rae graduated from the University of London Westminster Medical School where, in her final year, she won the Chadwick Prize for Medicine and Surgery.

Immediate post-qualification posts were at The Westminster Hospital where she worked for Professor Harold Ellis in Surgery and Professor Brewerton in Medicine. Post-graduate training then took place within The Westminster Hospital Group at St. Stephen’s Hospital (now Charing Cross Medical School) and included The London Chest Hospital where she was an SHO in respiratory medicine and The London Hospital where she was cardiology SHO for a year. Following training as a registrar in a busy district general hospital at Greenwich District, she then went on to study for her MD at King’s College Hospital in the Department of Chemical Pathology.

Work from the MD resulted in several publications including The Lancet. Dr Rae spent time as a clinical fellow in The University of Singapore where she was lecturer in Medicine and she then took up her final training post at King’s College Hospital in London. She became a consultant in Rheumatology and Rehabilitation in The Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in 1992 and in 1999 moved to Bedford Hospital where she remains a single handed clinical consultant seeing 1,000 new patients per annum and nearly 2,500 patients in total per annum.

Dr Rae is the author of 35 publications and her academic interests include nutritional medicine, osteoporosis, hypovitaminosis D and low back pain.

Dr Rae has four grown-up children and enjoys art and learning Italian in her spare time.
