About me
Like all NHS-appointed medically-qualified physicians, Andrew has undergone extensive training in medicine in general and Respiratory Medicine in particular. He has been an NHS consultant since 1993, providing general medical, respiratory and intensive care services to the patients of Northampton General Hospital. He is an honorary Professor in the University of Leicester. Prior to taking up his current post he trained in Edinburgh, Manchester, Cardiff, Paris and London in both clinical and academic posts. In addition to his clinical role he is very active in Medical Education as Director of Medical Education for his hospital for over 20 years, a recent Censor of the Royal College of Physicians of London and past chairman of NACT UK.
While routinely caring for patients with all respiratory diseases, Andrew’s particular sub-specialist interests are in critical care and diseases of the airways, such as asthma, COPD, sleep apnoea and assisted ventilation. He views it as essential that a solid understanding of the mechanisms of disease are balanced by a holistic approach to their management if optimal care is to be delivered.
