About me

I have been a consultant for over 25 years and developed much of the current NHS service in clinical haematology at Heartlands hospital where until 2011 I was Head of Service. during this time the service expanded to be one of the most active clinical haematology departments in the UK with wide interests in trials of the care of patients with blood cancers.

I have held a number of senior NHS appointments I was Medical Director of the Pan Birmingham Cancer Network from 2001 to 2013. Between 2005 and 2012 I chaired the NCRI Clinical Studies Group for Haematology. I chaired the West Midlands cancer Drugs Fund between 2010-2013. I currently sit on national committees for the National Cancer Intelligence Network.

I was made an Honorarary Reader at the University of Birmingham in 2003 and Honorary Professor of Haematology in 2009.
