About me

Professor Epstein qualified in South Africa and soon thereafter, moved to London where he specialised in hepatology and gastroenterology in Professor Dame Sheila Sherlock's medical unit at the Royal Free Hospital. In 1986 he was appointed consultant gastroenterologist and in 2007, was awarded a UCL personal chair in gastroenterology. He has published over 100 peer reviewed publications and is the senior author of the best selling textbook "Clinical Examination". Professor Epstein led the development of the Sheila Sherlock Education Centre at the Royal Free, the endoscopy and laparoscopic simulation centre, the map of medicine ( and the iConsult project designed to streamline the patient pathway. He is currently the medical director of the Royal Free Private Patient Unit Institute for Minimally Invasive Gastroenterology (IMIGE) and the PillCam Teaching Academy.
