About me

Dr Glenis Scadding is an Honorary Consultant Physician in Allergy and Rhinology at the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital, and Honorary Senior Lecturer at University College London.

She is currently President of the UK Semiochemistry Society and Chair of the Rhinology and Laryngology Research Fund. In the past she has held positions including the President of the British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology (BSACI) 2009-12, President of the Royal Society of Medicine’s Section of Clinical Immunology and Allergy from 2001 to 2003 and European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology ENT Section President in 2007-9.

In 2006, she won the BSACI William Frankland Award for outstanding contribution to clinical allergy in the UK. In 2012 she received for research in ENT the Clemens von Pirquet award from the European Academy and the Walter Jobson Horne award from the British Medical Association.

Dr Scadding’s research interests include rhinitis and its co-morbidities, including rhinosinusitis; aspirin hypersensitvity and sublingual immunotherapy. She is the author of over 288 peer- reviewed publications,plus many others, including textbooks on Investigative Rhinology, Paediatric ENT and Fast Facts in Rhinitis. Glenis instigated the BSACI UK Rhinitis guidelines, and is also a member of the WHO’s Allergic Rhinitis and its Impact on Asthma, and Sublingual Immunotherapy committees, European Paediatric Rhinosinusitis, European Paediatric Rhinitis and European Rhinosinusitis and Nasal Polyps ( EPOS) guidelines committees, and has written sections in each of these.

Areas of interest

Upper and lower respiratory tract disease, especially rhinitis, rhinosinusitis, nasal polyps and asthma.
