About me

Dr John Collins trained in cardiology and respiratory medicine at Guy's, Royal Brompton and Westminster hospitals, with a research interest in heart/lung physiology. Throughout his career he has maintained an active practice in general medicine.
He held consultant and head of department posts at St Bartholomew's, Royal Brompton, Westminster and Chelsea & Westminster hospitals. He has 17 years experience as Medical Director at Chelsea & Westminster, Benenden and Lister hospitals London, and has been lead for Clinical Governance for more than 20 years at those hospitals too.
He chaired the Clinical Standards Committee of the Royal College of Physicians for 3 years.
He is the author of two monographs, 16 chapters and more than 150 peer reviewed papers in major journals. Thirty of these reported clinical research in asthma. Other subjects covered includes the management and use of exercise in COPD, heart/lung diseases, the investigation and management of cough and breathlessness, tuberculosis and diabetes.
He has a particular interest in complex multi system diseases and welcomes referral for general medicine and all lung disorders with the exception of cystic fibrosis.

Areas of interest

Respiratory diseases; particularly asthma and COPD; community acquired pneumonia; thromboembolic disorders; organising pneumonia; particularly heart/lung diseases; ARDS; general and intensive care medicine; inhalation of substances.
