About me

I trained at Leeds University, graduating with honours in Medicine and Surgery and a first class degree in pathology in 1994. After completing general medical training I was awarded a Wellcome Trust Fellowship and moved to Edinburgh University where I completed my PhD on mechanisms of high blood pressure. I was clinical lecturer in Cardiology at Edinburgh University from 2002 to 2007 during which time I was awarded funding from the British Heart Foundation and published several highly cited papers. I completed my training in interventional cardiology at St Michael's Hospital, Toronto in 2007-2008. I was appointed to The Freeman Hospital in 2008 and am now one of the UK's highest volume angioplasty operators. I continue to be academically active and publish regularly in leading journals. In 2014 I received a prestigious BMJ Award for education team of the year.
