About me

Mr Shyamalan (Shyam) is a hand, wrist and elbow surgeon based in the West Midlands. As an upper limb surgeon, he is able to offer a complete and individualised service utilising the latest techniques including keyhole surgery and wide-awake surgery for common hand and wrist conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, dupuytren’s disease (contracture), arthritis and trigger finger.

He also sees patients with complex nerve problems and soft tissue hand trauma including joint replacement as well as children’s hand problems.

He also treats complex upper-limb fractures in the shoulder and elbow, treating conditions such as tennis elbow and golfer's elbow as well as being one of very few orthopaedic hand surgeons that performs high volumes of arthroscopic scaphoid surgery in the United Kingdom.

As well as a dedicated hand surgery consultant working and training others at The University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, he is director of The Midland Hand Clinic which covers private hand, wrist and elbow surgery across Birmingham, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield & Warwickshire.

Mr Shyamalan’s love for hand, wrist and elbow surgery started when he broke his scaphoid bone playing rugby at school. Following this he focused his training on orthopaedics and plastics hand surgery and undertook fellowship training at three world class units: Ganga Hospital India, with Raja Sabapathy, Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney, with Professor Tonkin and The Chelsea & Westminster Hospital.

Mr Shyamalan's aim is to offer an individualised, expert hand service in the management of pathological hand and wrist conditions, with a multi disciplinary team approach and consideration given to both surgical and non-surgical options.
