About me

Paul Rajjayabun graduated in Medicine from the University of Birmingham in 1994 and subsequently went on to be awarded a MD in Molecular Biology from the Cancer Research Unit, University of Newcastle upon Tyne. He completed his specialist training in Urological Surgery in the West Midlands Deanery and was appointed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon in 2008.

Mr Rajjayabun has a broad interest in all aspects of adult Urology with sub-specialist expertise in minimal access/laparoscopic surgery for malignant and benign conditions of the urinary tract. He has performed over 450 laparoscopic ‘keyhole’ kidney operations – many for patients with cancer.

He offers a comprehensive portfolio of laser surgical techniques in Urology to treat stone disease.

He implemented ‘Transperineal Template’ prostate biopsy techniques in Worcestershire and has performed approaching 300 procedures. Data on his outcomes for this procedure have been presented internationally. He worked closely with local charities in Worcestershire to secure over £300K of funding to procure diagnostic equipment to support this. He offers state of the art, MRI fusion guided sampling

His research and clinical work has been presented to numerous learned societies including The Royal College of Surgeons of England, The Royal Society of Medicine, The American Association of Urology, The World Congress of Endourology and The British Association of Urological Surgeons. His clinical team has been awarded the Lister Legacy Prize from The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Peter Ryan Prize from the West Midlands Urology Society.

Mr Rajjayabun acts as an Intercollegiate International Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Senior Examiner for the University of Birmingham Medical School. He sits on the regional specialist Urology training committee for Health Education England.

Mr Rajjayabun strongly supports research in the NHS and recently held the role of West Midlands South CRN Speciality Lead for Surgery and was a member of the National Institute for Health Research Surgery Specialty Group. He has collaboratively recruited patients into numerous key clinical trials investigating treatments for Urological cancer.

Mr Rajjayabun held the management executive post of Divisional Medical Director for Surgery at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. During his tenure he oversaw a budget turnover of £150 million and led preparations for a vital CQC inspection which resulted in over 20 ratings improvements in Surgical Services.
