About me

Dr Alexandrou is a London-based Consultant Paediatrician with nearly 30 years’ career dedicated in children’s health and well-being. He is looking after children up to the age of 16 years, with particular experience and expertise in all problems of the newborn and the first years of life. He is consulting on a wide range of conditions including: jaundice, unsettled babies, feeding and growth problems, gastro-oesophageal reflux, chronic/recurrent cough and wheeze/asthma, fever/infections, diarrhoea and vomiting, constipation, skin conditions such as cradle cap, nappy rash, eczema, urticaria, and persistent/recurrent headaches.
Dr Alexandrou also offers well baby checks and developmental assessment, advice on weaning to solids and food diversification, advice on immunization and prenatal consultations to prospective parents.

Dr Alexandrou’s NHS base is at the Richard Desmond Children’s Centre, Moorfields Hospital NHS Trust, where he is appointed Consultant Paediatrician and the Designated Named Doctor for safeguarding children. He is managing children with complex problems, often in close collaboration with specialist colleagues and teams from other tertiary paediatric centres, such as Great Ormond Street Hospital, The Evelina Children’s Hospital and the Royal London Hospital.

Dr Alexandrou graduated from Athens University Medical School and he undertook his entire paediatric specialist training in the UK, including St George’s Hospital-Medical School in London, and John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. He had further subspecialty training in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at the University of Western Ontario in Canada.

Dr Alexandrou held academic appointments as Clinical Lecturer in Child Health at St George’s Medical School, London, where he lectured Paediatrics at St George’s Medical School. He completed his research on lung maturation and he was awarded the Degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of London. He held an appointment as Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Imperial College School of Medicine.

Dr Alexandrou is an instructor and Medical Director for Neonatal Life Support (NLS), Resuscitation Council UK, regularly teaching management of the newborn to a wide range of clinicians at a national level. He organised and lectured the Newborn and Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) Screening Programme, Public Health England, at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, London.

Areas of interest

Dr Alexandrou is practicing paediatrics at a senior level since 2005. He has held appointments in Paediatrics & Neonatal Medicine in leading UK hospitals, such as the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, St George’s Hospital Medical School London, and John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

His expertise is focused on problems of newborn and the first years of life to school age.

He has recently expanded his special interests with the completion of a Diploma in Paediatric Infectious Diseases and Vaccines at Oxford University.
